Ski Practice
I went skiing at Copper Mountain on 26th of November. First, I got ready to ski. I met coach Lyle about 1:30 p.m. He told me the skiing plan that we were about to do then he said,“ please put on your skies and goggles.” He asked me to do some warm ups. Second, we went up the mountain. Coach Lyle and I then walked over to the ski lift. We used a special access because I was a ski student. In about 5 minutes, a lift came up and we got into the chair. I became scared as the lift took us higher and higher. Coach Lyle tried to distracted me from my fear and asked me,“ How do you like America?” I was trembling in my boots and answered as brave as I could, “I like it very much.” It took about fifteen minutes to reach the top with my feet dangling. Finally, with my eyes closed, I skied down from the mountain. Before going down, coach Lyle showed me how to turn and control my speed. I was sacred since the slope was very steep. But, Coach Lyle pat my shoulder and encouraged me. I convinced myself that it was safe and pushed-off down the slope. No sooner than I started, I fell down. Only my pride was hurt, I stood up and continued skiing. Because of Lyle’s instruction, I adapted and improvised and quickly began to turn and control my speed. It took about an hour to get down from the top of the mountain. Coach Lyle congratulated me and said, “ you really did a good job for your first time.

10. Hays High annual musical
My friend Lucy and I went to see the Hays High musical on 11th of November in the evening. First, we listened to the orchestra play. We took our seats before the musical began. It was very dark in the auditorium at the very beginning. Later, the light came up on the stage and the orchestra began to play a music which was composed by Rachmaninoff. We all enjoyed the musical and clapped, and I even yelled “Bravo!” Second, we learned the moral of the musical. The musical described a boy who was looking for a chocolate bar with a golden ticket. Of course, it was not easy for him to find it. He always encouraged himself and by saying, “Just think positive, you can find it.” He overcame many difficulties and finally find the golden ticket. We learned to think positive when meeting difficulties. Finally, We took some photos and got autographs. After seeing the musical, Lucy and I went on the stage and took ten photos with the main character Charlie. Lucy asked him, “Can you autograph my program?.” Charlie said, “Yes, of course, it is my pleasure.”

Visiting the cathedral of the plains in Victoria
Last Monday, the school took the juniors to visit the Cathedral of the plains in Vitoria, Kansas. It broadened our knowledge in three ways. First, we received a very formal mass. At about 8:00 p.m. We all arrived at the cathedral, walked in and sat down. The father gave us mass and we all prayed. Most of the students were Catholic and we sang hymns. Second, we received a special lecture. We went upstairs and sat in a conference and listened to a lecture. The lecture was about helping the poor in the world and it was given by a student leader from Fort Hays States University. She showed us some pictures and said, “There are many poor people who need food, water, and medical services in Africa.” Third, students discussed the acceptance of Catholicism in the world. At around 1:00 p.m. Everyone was asked to sit together and discuss Catholicism in other countries. Nick led the discussion and I was asked a tough question, “Is Catholicism accepted in China?” I thought for a while and answered, “As long as you don’t mix religion with politics, it is acceptable.” Then everyone began to talk about Catholicism in their own countries.

Hanging out with friends
Last Saturday afternoon, I hung out with some friends. First, we ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant. My friends Lucy, Sky and I went to a Chinese restaurant in the Mall about 5:00 p.m. We got in line and ordered our food. I ordered shrimp and vegetables and noodles. The two girls ordered egg fried rice. We all enjoyed the food and Lucy said, “It was very delicious.” Second, we went shopping in the mall. We left the restaurant and walked into J.C. penny’s to look for winter clothes. I saw a nice jacket and bought it. The two girls were looking at the clothes on sale. They couldn’t help but see a lot of stylish clothes. We all bought a lot of clothes and then we walked out of the mall. Last, we went to see a movie. I suggested we see a movie. So, we went up to the ticket window of the cinema and bought three tickets for Harry Potter 7. We had to wait 20 minutes in the line and eventually they let us enter the cinema and we took our seats. The movie was thrilling because Harry Porter fought the wicked wizards with his magic wand. We all had a great time because we are Harry Porters fans.

Vote
I had a memorable experience at a voting station in Hays. First, Mrs. Wagoner introduced me to the officials. They warmly welcome me and said,“ where are you from?” I replied,“ I’m from China and I am very interested in the American election system.” Second, I saw the procedure of voting. One of the lady official brought me close to the voting machine and she said, “There are three ways to vote, this is the electronic method.” Then she turned on the machine and showed me how to use it. The lady official took me to the table where the people cast their vote in a box. I was really surprised and couldn’t believe I could get so close to the American election. Third, After seeing how to vote, I took some photos in the voting center. I was surprised when the official said I could take some photos, so I took three photos one was with holding a ballot.
